8 Longest Battles In Final Fantasy 14

In Final Fantasy 14, these fights are not easy.

When you decide to play Final Fantasy 14, you probably know that it’s a bigger investment than the free trial, which lets you play up to level 60 of A Realm Reborn and the award-winning Heavensward expansion. You know that Final Fantasy 14 is going to take up a lot of your time.

There will be a fun way to waste time in Final Fantasy 14, whether you want to learn new strategies on the latest extreme trial or you want to run DPS on a dungeon chance and are willing to wait 30 minutes or more. It’s better to know ahead of time which prisons and trials will take up a lot of your time, right?

Limitless Blue, Bismarck

Limitless Blue, Bismarck

The problem with fighting Bismarck isn’t that he’s hard, but that you have to wait a long time before you can stand on his back and damage him directly. He has an unfair edge because he can fly just above the parry while sending thralls to your floating island.

Even his limit break is mostly just standing still and waiting to be hit by water or killed by electricity. This trial would have scored higher if Bismarck didn’t waste so much of your time, but the only good thing about it is that you have to race against a rage timer. If you miss even one of the harpoons, the fight is over and you have to start over.

Fist Of The Father (Savage)

Fist Of The Father (Savage)

This savage raid really drove a wedge between players who ran savage raids all the time and those who wanted to try out savage content for the first time. It was terrible. Those who kept trying can tell stories about how many times they had to run the same raid over and over again, while other groups just broke up when they had enough.

Even though the fight usually lasts 90 minutes, which is about average for a raid, that’s not where the name “endless battle” comes from. On average, it took groups that had done it before about a month to clear it. Some people were even doing raids every day and spending hours doing the fight over and over again to figure out the best way to deal with its features. The only reason this isn’t higher on the list is because the fight itself is about the same time as other fights.

The Porta Decumana

The Porta Decumana

Square decided that the Ultima Weapon Fight needed a big update to keep up with the fact that each patch makes Final Fantasy 14 stronger. Boy, was this fight a good one. Ultima Weapon has a lot of new moves to keep you busy, but his HP has also gone up, making him a damage sponge. This isn’t a joke about the mammoth-sized weapon; it’s just a long-overdue update.

Square decided that the mid-fight cutscene couldn’t be skipped. So that players could fully enjoy how well Ultima Weapon is put together. That’s more for new players who haven’t seen this part of Final Fantasy 14 yet. But Ultima will make sure you don’t forget who he is.

Construct Seven, The Ridorana Lighthouse

Construct Seven, The Ridorana Lighthouse

Construct Seven is well-known for being a bucket of bolts that stops advancement and for doing several hard-hitting AOE attacks. Since it’s a robot with a set job, it wouldn’t make sense to get mad at it for doing what it was made to do, right? It’s not like you’re being picked on or anything.

At least, it wasn’t until it did some calibrations using good old-fashioned prime math. Construct Seven brings your HP down to one, which makes you worry right away because you are so close to dying. It then asks you to find your prime HP number or take a debuff. And then it quickly launches an attack that could kill your whole party if you don’t heal fast enough. Having math be the cause of a loss seems like a terrible joke.

The Cloud Deck (Extreme)

The Cloud Deck (Extreme)

Most of the things you do during the day, like looking through social media, don’t seem to take up much time. You might not realize that 12 minutes have passed until two hours have passed or until you talk to a friend you haven’t heard from in a long time. 12 minutes suddenly doesn’t feel like it would be enough.

But if those 12 minutes were spent on top of an airplane hundreds of feet above the ground and you had to fight a huge Garlean-made mechanical monster, those 12 minutes can feel like an eternity. In the Cloud Deck extreme, you have 12 minutes before Diamond Weapon goes berserk and wipes your party.

The Steps Of Faith

The Steps Of Faith

The Steps of Faith came with the last patch before Heavensward. It was a simple event in which you had to stop Vishap and his army from crashing through the walls of Ishgard. Oh, if only it were that simple. Not only does it take a huge amount of damage to stop the flying beast. But you also have to worry about getting crushed by its feet.

What makes it long, though, is how slowly Vishap moves up the bridge. As if to show you that he’s taking his time because you can’t stop him. On top of that, he’ll kick the ground out from under you, leaving you stunned for a few seconds while he goes on his way. Not to mention that you have to run the whole length of the bridge every time you die and start over. All. The. Time.

Sophia, Containment P1T6 (Unreal)

Sophia, Containment P1T6 (Unreal)

Sophia is one of the Warring Triad creatures that can be found in Azys Lla. Which is above the Sea of Clouds and the mountains in Abalathia’s Spine. Even in story mode, the trial has always had a sort of learning curve that you had to figure out. There’s dealing with the ads and trying to stay living. And if you fall off the scale, she can knock you off.

It’s one of those fights where you could know how it works and have enough DPS or heals to keep going. It only takes one or two people to run a little slower to the spot marked on the map. The next thing you know, everyone is dead, and this is the fourth time this has happened. So, you queue up to start again in Flappy Bird. After that. And again. It takes, on average, a few tries to get one clear.

Angra Mainyu, The World Of Darkness

Angra Mainyu, The World Of Darkness

Everyone who was there for the deadly chaos of the Crystal Tower alliance raids knows that this boss was responsible for a lot of wipes. Even if people didn’t know how it worked, there were times when the fight could go on for the whole 120 minutes. Since the raid was brand new, most people who were looking forward to finishing the OG Crystal Tower plot were angry and upset instead.

Angra Mainyu, who is everyone’s worst enemy, shows up. Angra Mainyu is the first boss of the raid. He has several moves that are meant to kill you: Mortal Gaze can cause Doom if you’re not careful. And it can also cast a straight-up death spell that will kill you if you don’t do it right. It was hell, and if just a couple of new people join the raid, it can still be hell.
